APPLICATIONS AND PERMITS
A Land Use Permit is required if you plan to build, erect or remodel a structure in Hamilton Township. A $15.00 fee must be paid by cash or check when the application is submitted. Credit cards are not accepted. Certain projects are regulated by the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code and, therefore, require a separate construction permit and building code inspections. Contact PA Municipal Code Alliance, Inc. (PMCA) for more information. Building Setback Requirements – Lots subdivided and recorded prior to April 1, 2002: 35’ from extent of road right-of-way, 10’ from side and rear property lines. Lots subdivided and recorded after April 2, 2002: 35’ from extent of road right-of-way, 10’ from side property lines, 25’ from rear property line. Exception: storage sheds not in excess of three hundred (300) square feet in size and not permanently affixed to the ground may be located ten (10) feet from rear property line. Corner lots bounded by more than one street shall have a building setback distance from both road rights-of-way of at least thirty-five (35) feet. |
A Driveway Permit is required for all new driveway installations or improvements. A $35.00 fee must be paid by cash or check when the application is submitted. Credit cards are not accepted. If driveway connects to state road, contact PennDOT at 717-264-4171. Applicant must place stakes to indicate the proposed location and width of the driveway. A Hamilton Township representative will inspect the construction site after an application for the driveway permit is submitted. |

GREEN YARD WASTE RECYCLING CENTER
Effective January 1, 2024, the Borough of Chambersburg has increased the cost of the Green Yard Recycling Facility Card to $18.00
OPENING APRIL 9, 2024
Hamilton Township has entered into an agreement with the Borough of Chambersburg which will allow Hamilton Township residents to use the Borough’s Green Yard Waste Recycling Center located at 491 West Commerce Street, Chambersburg.
Residents must come to the Hamilton Township Supervisors’ Office weekdays between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM with valid photo identification to purchase a card for $18.00 that will entitle you to twelve (12) visits to the Green Yard Waste Recycling Center. The fee must be paid by cash or check, credit cards are not accepted.

Travel North on Route 11 to the Sheetz in Greenvillage. Continue through the intersection and turn right onto Pine Stump Road. Travel approximately 1.4 miles, turn left onto Rice Road. Harry Rotz facility will be on the left.
Accepts grass clippings, sod, leaves, manure, wood chips, garden weeds and plant materials.
Will NOT accept tree branches. do not leave material in plastic bags. You must empty material from plastic bags and take the empty bags with you.
SEPTIC PUMPING
Hamilton Township, under regulation imposed by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, requires property owners to have their septic tank pumped and system inspected once every three (3) years. Below is a list of licensed haulers.

TRASH SERVICE AND RECYCLING
Residents may contract with a trash hauler of their choice.
Hamilton Township recognizes the importance of recycling and offers our residents information on the various recycling facilities within Franklin County.
Hamilton Township offers an annual three-day Bulky Item Drop-Off at the Township Building each Spring. This free collection service allows residents to dispose of unwanted household items too large for regular refuse services.
